FROM EAST TENNESSEE PRESBYTERY:

Mission In Service – report from Lisl Jackson, TIS, submitted by Jane Guthrie.

Health and hygiene kits were brought to the Annual Gathering at Second Pres. in Knoxville on April
23.  Afterwards they were loaded into three vehicles 'heading south to Chattanooga to Lisl’s
house.  She checked, counted and packed all 785 of them into Rivermont Presbyterian's church
van.

Monday morning Lisl drove 520 miles to Little Rock, AR to deliver the kits to the PRESBYTERIAN
DISASTER ASISTANCE (PDA/Church World Service).   There were 700 hygiene kits and 85
baby kits.

Lisl thanks everyone who participated in this worthwhile cause.  It was mind boggling to see so
many kits and a miracle that they all fit in one van!

The kits will be checked again by the staff at CWS, placed in boxes, shrink wrapped and sent to
Haiti once a container is filled.  146 kits were given by Rivermont PW - the largest number given
by one church.
Lisl stayed overnight at the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center returning home to Chattanooga
the next day.

From Mary Weber:
Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your
thanks, but weren't sure how or it felt awkward?  Recently, a gentleman from Seattle created a
gesture which could be used and has started a movement to get the word out. Please everybody
take just a moment to watch.... The Gratitude Campaign; .......and then forward it to your friends!

Grants were given to six churches to help with their mission programs at the annual meeting of
Mid South PW:

First  Presbyterian, Memphis, a $500 grant to buy a washing machine for "Hospitality Hub" a
project for the homeless.  This machine will be used to furnish clean clothing for the homeless.
Showers for supplies are being held by many churches to provide washing powder and bleach for
the machine.

Grace Presbyterian received a grant for $100 to pay for gasoline for their van which transports the
elderly in their area.

Germantown Presbyterian a $100 grant for their work with "Martha's Manor" to buy educational
programs for their work with mentally challenged women.

Cordova Presbyterian a $100 grant to repair their fence at the Early Childhood Center.

Parkway Gardens a $100 grant to provide an activity for the disabled residents at the Orleans Care
Home.

Woodland United Presbyterian a $100 grant to the Food Pantry which provided 150 bags of
groceries per week to the needy.

Hi Gals,
We had our Spiritual Growth Retreat this past weekend.  We invited Rabbi Brent Feidler
(Messianic) and some from his congregation.  They led Praise and Worship (and he even blew the
shofar) and spoke to us throughout the weekend on the Fall Feasts from Leviticus 23; Rosh
Hashana (Feasts of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and Sukkoth (Feast of
Tabernacles).  It was educational and inspiring.  I believe everyone left feeling that they could now
connect Jesus to the Old Testament with much more ease.   We took the "necklace" tradition to the
Fall Gathering and the Retreat and have collected $285.00 for one of our local ministries, Sunset
Gap.

"DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT!"
East Tennessee is taking a 'twist on the "usual" this fall by having three Fall Cluster Gatherings
geared to the topography of presbytery. Less driving, programs planned by each Cluster and
planned by the PW in that area.  All three plan variations on the theme of the Churchwide Gathering
that God will do and is doing wonders with us as women.  One cluster has developed the theme
"God will do wonders among us... Be a wonder woman... No cape needed!"  the Gathering will
include a labyrinth opportunity, overview of our Joshua Bible Study, a time to talk with officers,
chairman and other women with the same responsibilities to share and the sharing of
Communion.
