Health and hygiene kits were brought to the Annual Gathering at Second Pres. in Knoxville on April 23. Afterwards they were loaded into three vehicles 'heading south to Chattanooga to Lisl’s house. She checked, counted and packed all 785 of them into Rivermont Presbyterian's church van. Monday morning Lisl drove 520 miles to Little Rock, AR to deliver the kits to the PRESBYTERIAN DISASTER ASISTANCE (PDA/Church World Service). There were 700 hygiene kits and 85 baby kits. Lisl thanks everyone who participated in this worthwhile cause. It was mind boggling to see so many kits and a miracle that they all fit in one van! The kits will be checked again by the staff at CWS, placed in boxes, shrink wrapped and sent to Haiti once a container is filled. 146 kits were given by Rivermont PW - the largest number given by one church. Lisl stayed overnight at the Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center returning home to Chattanooga the next day. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05/01/10 PWS Report submitted by Jackie Riddle, PWP Moderator, Holston Presbytery From Mary Weber: Have you ever seen one of our military walking past you and wanted to convey to them your thanks, but weren't sure how or it felt awkward? Marjorie Thomson, Mid South (10/05/09) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I need to remind Moderators about the 10 items for the Market at the Synod Gathering in June 2010. This new "Post It" would be a great way to remind them. Have a great day. Thank you. Ann Wood (10/03/09) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Gals, We had our Spiritual Growth Retreat this past weekend. We invited Rabbi Brent Feidler (Messianic) and some from his congregation. They led Praise and Worship (and he even blew the shofar) and spoke to us throughout the weekend on the Fall Feasts from Leviticus 23; Rosh Hashana (Feasts of Trumpets), Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement) and Sukkoth (Feast of Tabernacles). It was educational and inspiring. I believe everyone left feeling that they could now connect Jesus to the Old Testament with much more ease. We took the "necklace" tradition to the Fall Gathering and the Retreat and have collected $285.00 for one of our local ministries, Sunset Gap. Jackie Riddle, Holston Presbytery (09/28/09) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT!" East Tennessee is taking a 'twist on the "usual" this fall by having three Fall Cluster Gatherings geared to the topography of presbytery. Less driving, programs planned by each Cluster and planned by the PW in that area. All three plan variations on the theme of the Churchwide Gathering that God will do and is doing wonders with us as women. One cluster has developed the theme "God will do wonders among us... Be a wonder woman... No cape needed!" the Gathering will include a labyrinth opportunity, overview of our Joshua Bible Study, a time to talk with officers, chairman and other women with the same responsibilities to share and the sharing of Communion.
