Presbyterian Women of Transylvania Presbytery

Fall Gathering

October 20, 2007

Camp Burnamwood Camp and Conference Center

The weather was terrible all week--rain, wind and cold.  Camp Burnamwood is a natural environment.  The surroundings are trees, water and feeling close to God.  We usually have our gathering outside in the pavilion.  But, due to the weather, we decided to have the meeting in the dining room and on the large porch.  When Saturday morning arrived, God must have heard our prayers because the sky was beautiful with a sunrise that was an awesome sight.

We always open our gatherings/meetings with prayer and the lighting of the Christ Candle.  The Interim Director, Lee Boyd, of Camp Burnamwood gave a history of Burnamwood including improvements that have been made and plans for future developments.

The devotional was given by the Rev. Dr. David McKee, Interim General Presbyter.  He gave us a different outlook on two very familiar women in the Bible, Mary and Martha, using two different versions of the Bible.  We took a few minutes standing and “passing the Peace.”

The training we received in Franklin, Tennessee, this spring really paid off.  The ladies who attended the workshops led the training for: Moderators, Cluster Leaders, Historians/Secretaries, Treasurers and Together in Service (formerly missions).  Our keynote speaker was Gloria Moorman, PWP Moderator, Synod of Living Waters-Mid Kentucky.  She led a workshop for Presbyterian Women in the congregation.  Mary Weber, Moderator, Synod of Living Waters presented us with a “Challenge.”  In Soon Chi provided us with information about the next two churchwide gatherings.  The next churchwide gathering will be in Louisville, Kentucky, July 11-15, 2009.  Orlando, Florida will host the 2012 churchwide.  The new PWP Directory was explained including the importance of getting the different forms to leaders on time.  Horizons Magazine is important to PW.  With each subscription to Horizons you receive a copy of the new Bible Study.

The offering at the gathering was divided equally between Buckhorn for Children and Camp Burnamwood.

The gathering concluded with the singing of “There’s a Peace Like A River,” prayer and extinguishing of the Christ Candle.

The Spring Gathering will be at the Lancaster Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, Kentucky, April 12, 2008.  Please make plans to attend.  Also, check out the PW web site.
